Where Stair Nose Soft belongs

Stair Nose Soft is made for timber stairs in homes, offices, schools and cafés where footsteps echo or sharp stair edges need softening. The bullnose wrap profile covers the leading edge of each step, making stairs more comfortable and visually continuous.

These felt wraps suit high-traffic hallways, family homes with busy stairwells, and even farmhouse kitchens where you want extra grip and warmth underfoot. They are practical in any space where reducing noise and protecting timber matters.

Quiet, safe and kind to timber

Stairs get the most wear in a building, and hard wood edges are often slippery and noisy. Stair Nose Soft cushions each step, softening footfall and reducing the hollow sound of shoes on wood. The sealed soft edge gives a smooth, tactile finish that is gentle if someone bumps or sits on the step.

Grip is essential on stairs: our wraps include a non-slip layer that helps the felt stay put, making each step steadier for children, older people or anyone with hands full. The felt also acts as a buffer for the timber itself, reducing scuff marks and minor knocks.

Choosing size, thickness and finish

Stair Nose Soft comes in a 5 to 7 mm thickness, giving enough cushioning without becoming bulky. The bullnose profile fits most timber stair shapes but works best on square or gently rounded nosings. If your stairs have a tight curve or unusual profile, send us a side photo and we’ll advise.

Finishes range from subtle to bold: Sage Field, Mist Paper, Ink Edge, Soft Leaf, Stone Wash, Cloud Pale, Forest Mute, Sand Quiet, Clay Mute and Teal Soft. For busy staircases, mid-tones like Stone Wash or Sand Quiet hide marks best. If your stairs get direct sun, remember that UV can fade any dyed textile over time, so consider lighter shades or rotate pieces if possible.

Fitting and living with Stair Nose Soft

Our nosing wraps can be fitted by an experienced installer or a careful DIYer, depending on your confidence and the stairs’ shape. Each strip is cut to run the full width of the step, wrapping the leading edge and fixing with approved adhesive or hidden staples as suits the timber and location.

In the first months, the felt responds to foot traffic and settles to the underlying shape. Brush or vacuum regularly to keep dirt from settling into the fibre. For homes with pets or children, check corners after the first few weeks and press down gently if you notice any lift. Wet shoes or spills should be blotted and left to dry naturally: avoid rubbing, and never use a hot air gun or tumble dryer on felt.
