How Ink Edge appears on felt in every light

Ink Edge is a strong, dark ink shade, reading as a true black with blue undertones in felt. In bright daylight it looks crisp and saturated, while in evening lamplight it can soften slightly to charcoal, especially on textured wool felts. The fibre’s natural matte surface takes the dye with a slight heathered look rather than a hard gloss, so you get depth without glare.

When you run your hand over a panel or edge in Ink Edge, the depth of colour stays true but the felt’s nap can break up the surface tone, sometimes you’ll see a tiny bit of lighter fibre, especially on merino blends. This effect is more subtle on polyester acoustic felts, which hold a flat, even black with fewer visible fibres.

Textiles and spaces that suit Ink Edge

Ink Edge is ideal as a bold trim or a structured accent, especially on Softline Wall Felt, Desk Mat Felt, and Soft Tray Nest. It marks out piping, stitching, runners, or hardware, giving definition against mid or pale field colours like Sage Field or Cloud Pale. In a busy hotel or clinic, Ink Edge helps edges look crisp and hides the odd scuff or grime that would show on a lighter finish.

This finish works well in home offices, entryways, and commercial interiors where you want a clear contrast line. On plinth wraps, banquette edges, or stair noses, it frames other colours without drawing too much attention. Don’t let it run across a whole wall if you want a soft mood, it’s made for detail, not fields.

How to test your Ink Edge swatch at home

Before choosing Ink Edge, order a swatch through our contact form or visit a showroom bay. Compare it under both natural daylight and your usual room lighting, as dark tones can shift depending on the bulb warmth and the surrounding colours. Place the swatch next to your planned wall or seat finish to see how the edge will stand out.

Keep in mind that all dyed felt can fade if left in direct sun, so if your edge detail sits near a sunny window, rotate the piece or use blinds to protect it. Dye lots may vary, if you want all edges the same, please order at once or let us know so we can colour match.
