Desk mat
Large stitched felt desk mats that soften your workspace, dampen noise and keep timber or glass desktops in good shape.
Desk Mat Felt is a single, large felt mat with stitched edges, sized to cover most desks in home offices, studios or open-plan workspaces. It gives a soft, forgiving surface under your keyboard, mouse, notebook and coffee mug, making any desk or table feel more inviting.
These felt desk mats are cut to either 600 by 900 mm or 800 by 1200 mm, so you can fit everything from a compact study nook to a shared workstation. Most clients use them to soften typing noise, keep stationery in place and protect exposed timber or painted desktops from daily knocks and scratches.
Typing on a felt desk mat is quieter, especially with mechanical keyboards or busy calls. Felt cushions sharp clatter and stops things sliding around, so cup handles and pens stay put even if you have to grab them in a hurry. The stitched edge keeps the mat neat and helps it lie flat from the start.
In winter, felt adds a welcome layer between you and the chill of tile, granite or glass. On the Highveld, it helps keep fine dust off laptop fans and gives hands a softer rest. Where humidity fluctuates (like Cape Town in July or Durban all year), felt copes well as long as its aired now and then. If you opt for the grip back, the mat sits steady on smooth or varnished desks, which is handy for kids' rooms or shared offices where things move about.
Desk Mat Felt comes in two standard sizes: 600 by 900 mm for individual workspaces and 800 by 1200 mm for bigger desks or shared tables. The thickness ranges from 4 to 6 mm, thick enough to soften noise and daily wear but not so bulky that it curls or catches on drawers.
All mats have a stitched edge detail for strength and appearance. Choose between our available colourways: Sage Field, Mist Paper, Ink Edge, Soft Leaf, Stone Wash, Cloud Pale, Forest Mute, Sand Quiet, Clay Mute, or Teal Soft. Because felt is a non-woven textile, cut edges do not fray and colour stays solid along the edge. If you aren't sure which colour blends best with your furniture or workspace, ask for a sample piece so you can check it in your own light.
Fitting a Desk Mat Felt is simple: unroll it, let it relax flat for a few hours, then centre it on your desk. With the stitched edge, the mat tends to settle nicely, but if it was stored rolled up, a quick flatten with some books will help it along. The optional grip back is useful on smooth or lacquered surfaces, but if your desk is already textured or heavy, you might not need it.
For the first few weeks, check under the mat for dust or crumbs and give the felt a light brush or vacuum now and then. Avoid dragging mugs or pot plants over the surface and resist the urge to eat something oily right over your new mat. If you do spill, blot with a cool, damp cloth and let it dry flat in the shade. Don’t put it near a heater or in direct sun for long stretches, as strong UV can fade dyed felt near the window.
