Desk tray
Soft Tray Nest keeps keys, stationery and small items quiet and tidy on desks, counters or reception areas. Dense merino-blend felt means no clatter or scratched timber.
Soft Tray Nest is a set of simple felt trays designed for desks, counters and waiting areas. They solve the daily problem of keys, pens, phones or fobs rattling on hard surfaces, especially where quieter spaces matter, like a reception or shared office.
Each tray is pressed from a firm merino-blend felt that holds its shape, with neat cut edges that wont fray. The material choice means these trays feel soft in the hand, but also sturdy enough to handle coins and heavier items without denting or flexing.
We see Soft Tray Nests in homes, clinics, cafes and hotel lobbies. They fit equally well on a family kitchen island or a professional reception desk, helping to keep clutter corralled.
Wool felt is naturally quiet, taking the edge off any noise when you drop your keys or set down a mug. The firm base means it stays flat, and the additional depth (30 to 50 mm) keeps small items from sliding out easily.
In winter, felt does not feel cold to the touch like metal or ceramic trays, which makes it more inviting for home and office use. The merino blend is dense enough to resist pilling and surface wear from regular handling.
You can wipe out dust or crumbs with a soft brush or vacuum nozzle. If the felt gets marked, spot clean gently with cool water and a little mild soap, blotting rather than rubbing, and let it dry flat in the shade.
Soft Tray Nest is available in three sizes: S, M and L. The small is ideal for keys, cards or jewellery. Medium fits pens, remotes or glasses, while large can catch post, chargers or a phone.
The depth runs from 30 to 50 mm, giving enough edge to keep contents in place. For shared counters or side tables, people often choose a set in matching or graduated sizes.
All trays come in a selection of felt finishes: Sage Field, Mist Paper, Ink Edge, Soft Leaf, Stone Wash, Cloud Pale, Forest Mute, Sand Quiet, Clay Mute and Teal Soft. If you’re matching to a scheme or furniture, request a sample swatch to check the colour in your own light.
There’s no special fitting needed: simply place the tray on your desk or counter and it will sit flat and still, thanks to the weight and firmness of the felt base. If your surfaces get bumped often, add a small non-slip pad or mat beneath.
In the first months, shake out grit and dust often, as South African homes can track in plenty, especially in Highveld winters with open windows. Wool felt will hold a little humidity, but make sure it dries out if something spills, or it can must if left damp.
Rotate the tray away from direct sun when possible, as the UV in our climate will slowly fade any dyed textile. The colour may mellow a bit with use, developing a soft patina, especially in a busy family or office.
