Everyday care for Merino Plinth Felt

Keep your Merino Plinth Felt looking fresh with a weekly brush using a medium-firm upholstery brush. This lifts surface dust and helps prevent fibre matting, especially on busy museum plinths or retail displays. For a deeper clean, use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment, always move in the direction of the felt for best results.

Avoid using strong suction or beater-bar heads. If the felt is in a high-traffic setting, a quick dust-off every couple of days helps manage grit from shoes or bags. With regular brushing and vacuuming, you dont need heavy cleaning products.

Handling spots and spills

If someone spills coffee or ink, act fast: blot up the liquid gently with a clean, dry cloth. Don’t rub, as that can push the stain deeper into the felt.

Use cool water and a tiny drop of mild wool-safe detergent or upholstery shampoo for most marks. Always test your cleaning solution on an offcut or tucked-away spot first. Work from the outside of the stain towards the centre, then blot dry and let air-dry flat, out of direct sun.

Seasonal care in South African conditions

On the Highveld, dry winters mean dust settles fast, so regular brushing is important. In July, check for UV fading in sunny rooms, felt colours can shift near windows, so rotate pieces and consider blinds or UV film.

In Durban, Cape Town or coastal areas, damp air can linger. Air out closed rooms often, and avoid letting Merino Plinth Felt stay damp as wool can go musty. For storage, only pack felt when completely dry, and never seal it in plastic. Moth and beetle larvae may nibble dirty wool, especially in hidden corners: vacuum and brush before long storage, and keep felt exposed to light and air.
