Entry Mat Soft works hard at every entrance, catching dirt and grit before it gets further inside. To keep it at its best, brush the mat regularly with a stiff hand brush, sweeping grit in the direction of the fibre. For a deeper clean, use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush head to avoid roughing up the surface.
If your entrance is busy or close to a garden, you might need to brush or vacuum daily, especially in winter or after windy weather. Don't forget the underside: flip the mat and clean the grip backing every now and then to keep it lying flat and safe underfoot.
Spills happen. The sooner you blot them up, the less chance they have to stain. Use a dry, absorbent cloth to dab at the spot, avoid rubbing, as this can push dirt further into the felt. If you need to use a cleaner, test a small area first: cool water and a tiny bit of mild wool wash or upholstery shampoo usually do the job.
After spot cleaning, blot up any excess moisture with a paper towel and leave the mat to dry flat in the shade. Never use hot water, heavy scrubbing, or a tumble dryer, as these can shrink or distort the felt. Sometimes in a rush, we forget to test a cleaner and end up with a patch, always check first if its your first time.
On the Highveld, dust is a daily visitor. Shake out Entry Mat Soft outdoors or vacuum regularly to keep grit from wearing down the fibres. In coastal cities like Durban or Cape Town, felt can pick up moisture: let mats dry out properly in a breezy spot if they feel damp, and never store them sealed in plastic.
Moths and beetles are drawn to dirty wool, so make sure you never leave the mat dirty or damp for long periods. For storage, roll up the mat and keep it in a cool, dry cupboard, just make sure it's clean and dry first. In sunny spots, rotate the mat now and then to even out any fading.
