For spa treatment rooms in Cape Town, we used Softline Wall Felt and ceiling clouds to quieten noise and soften the atmosphere for clients and therapists.
Cape Town's spa rooms face a real challenge: keeping treatment areas peaceful and confidential despite nearby traffic, corridors, and shared walls. In these spaces, even small echoes or voices from neighbouring rooms can disturb the calm clients need during treatments. Many of the buildings are close to busy roads, and hard surfaces like glass, tiles and painted brick bounce sound around.
The brief was clear: the spa needed rooms where both guests and therapists felt cocooned from outside noise. Staff also asked for finishes that looked restful, suited the city’s changing light, and were practical to keep clean in a busy setting.
We recommended our Softline Wall Felt for the main wall fields in each treatment room, combining it with floating Ceiling Cloud Felt panels. These two textiles work together: wall felt tames voice and movement noise at ear level, while the ceiling clouds help absorb sound overhead, especially in rooms with high or hard ceilings.
Softline Wall Felt can be rail- or adhesive-mounted and is available in calming colourways like Mist Paper and Sage Field, which both soften the light and support a sense of calm. The felt’s non-woven structure means cut edges are neat and will not fray, keeping the look crisp while making it easy to tailor to each room’s features. We chose finishes that are easy to vacuum or spot clean and will not look worn after constant use.
Within weeks, staff noticed conversations in neighbouring rooms were far less distracting, and clients commented on the stillness during treatments. The walls carried fewer clangs and footsteps from the passage, and the overall feel of each room was warmer and more private.
After a full winter season, the felt panels handled salt air and damp days well. Regular vacuuming kept the surfaces fresh, and the colours stayed true even where sunlight reached the upper walls. There was no musty smell, a common issue in Cape Town’s wetter months, as the rooms were aired out and the felt could dry fully between uses.
If you run a wellness studio or spa in Cape Town or a similar coastal city, consider felt wall and ceiling finishes for both acoustic control and visual calm. Start with a sample: our Woodstock studio holds a library of full-size panels and cuttings, so you can see and feel the difference.
Choose colours that suit your light and are easy to care for. Plan for simple cleaning routines, and leave enough air circulation to keep every room fresh, especially in the rainy season. Mounting systems can be adapted for existing rooms, whether you have concrete, brick or drywall.
