Regular upkeep keeps your Window Seat Cushion looking and feeling its best. Brush gently with a soft upholstery brush to lift dust, crumbs, and pet hair. For deeper cleaning, use a vacuum with a soft brush head, avoid hard heads or strong suction, which can flatten the felt or linen cover.
Rotate the cushion if one spot gets more sun or traffic, so wear and colour stay even. If your cushion has a piped edge or layered fill, check that seams and stitching stay secure after cleaning.
If something spills, act quickly. Blot (don’t rub) with a dry, clean cloth to lift as much liquid as possible. For most marks, dab gently with cool water, never hot, and blot again. A mild wool wash or upholstery shampoo can help, but always test on a hidden area first.
Do not soak or tumble dry your cushion. Let it air dry flat in the shade, away from direct heat or strong sun. For stubborn stains, avoid harsh chemicals or vigorous scrubbing, as these can damage the cover or felt fill.
On the Highveld, frequent dust and sunny windows mean you should brush and vacuum more often, especially in winter. Rotate cushions to reduce fading and use blinds or UV film near strong sun. In coastal areas like Durban or Cape Town, damp can creep in, open windows on dry days and avoid storing cushions sealed in plastic.
Wool felt naturally buffers humidity but must dry out properly after wet weather or spills, or it can go musty. Moths and carpet beetles are rare if you keep the cushion clean and in use, but check seams and hidden folds, especially after winter. Never store your cushion dirty or in a closed, humid room.
