Everyday care for your Hearth Runner

Sweep or vacuum your Hearth Runner regularly to keep dust and grit from working into the felt. Use a soft brush or a vacuum with an upholstery head, avoid stiff bristles, as they can rough up the surface over time.

A gentle weekly brush keeps fibres tidy and colours clear. In high traffic areas, you may need to clean more often, especially during dry, windy spells when dust collects faster indoors.

Dealing with spots and spills

Blot spills right away with a clean, absorbent cloth. Never rub, as this pushes the mark deeper into the felt. For sticky or stubborn spots, use cool water with a drop of mild wool wash or a gentle upholstery shampoo. Test your solution on a hidden edge first.

Dab gently, blotting moisture up as you go. Rinse out any soap with a clean, damp cloth. Always let the area dry flat, out of direct sun and never use a tumble dryer or heater. If you are unsure, ask us for advice before trying strong cleaners.

Seasonal care for South African rooms

On the Highveld, dust and fine grit drift through open doors in winter, so plan for more frequent brushing during dry months. Rotate your Hearth Runner if it sits in strong sunlight, felt colours can fade over time with UV exposure. Blinds or UV window film help preserve finishes.

In the Cape or KZN, damp rooms and closed spaces can invite mustiness. Air your runner out on a dry day, and make sure it never stays damp for long. If you have moths or beetles in the house, vacuum thoroughly and keep your runner clean, as insects are drawn to dirt in wool textiles.
