Project
A Muizenberg villa needed window seats and wall felt to settle in after busy beach days. We worked with felt cushions and wall fields in soft, coastal hues.
Muizenberg’s summers mean sand underfoot and that mix of sea air and sun that finds its way into every room. The open living space in this coastal villa was bright and breezy, but by late season the owners found their window seats were collecting grit, salt and the odd trace of sunscreen. Sun faded the old fabrics quickly, and the echo made it hard to relax on a windier day.
They wanted a way to soften the sound, keep things cleaner and cool, and protect their window seats without fussing over fragile upholstery. The challenge was to choose something practical that could cope with beach life and still look fresh after a few months of use.
We recommended our Window Seat Cushion for the deep sills along the living room bay and reading nook. With a layered felt fill and a piped edge, these can be covered in either felt or linen, but here we matched the look with Softline Wall Felt behind each seatback. Both are easy to spot clean, and the dense felt shrugged off sand and daily use.
For colour, we kept to pale, gentle shades that suit a sea-facing room: Sage Field and Cloud Pale on the seat cushions, with a field of Soft Leaf felt on the back wall. These hues hold up well in sunlight, though we always suggest rotating cushions near bright windows and using blinds or UV film for extra protection.
A few months after the install, the owners found the felt was much easier to keep clean than the loose covers they had before. Most beach grit brushed off, and the cushions kept their shape even after heavy use. When a guest left a sunscreen mark, it wiped away with a damp cloth and a little patience.
We noticed the felt wall field also softened the echo in the room, making it more comfortable for reading or a quiet chat. Its easy to see why felt works in these spaces: no fraying edges, no fuss with seams, just a bit of regular vacuuming to keep dust and moths at bay.
For villas and flats near the sea, felt cushions and wall fields are a solid choice. They handle grit, humidity and sun better than many fabrics, and they make the room quieter without much effort.
If you’re planning a similar update, ask us to show you samples in pale, muted colours that suit your natural light. Remember, regular care keeps wool felt at its best: brush or vacuum now and then, blot up any spills, and let pieces dry out properly if they get damp.
